Keys

For the graduation’s over
And the rest of life begins
So it’s time for celebrating
A bit of drinking between friends
Yes it’s gonna be quite harmless
See the most I’ll have is two
And I’ll be fine for driving
Or I’ll give my keys to you

And this party is just starting
There’s a phystt the cap is off
So the first drink goes down easy
Someone passes me a shot
See it only took a moment
And our lives were put in danger
So you asked me for my keys right then
But I felt you were a stranger

So another shot I’d taken
And I chased it with a beer
And I saw that you were worried
But right then I had no fear
And you asked me for my keys again
But I said I was okay
So I had another cold one
How I wished you’d walked away.

It was a little after midnight
And you wanted to go home
I told you I would drive you
You were scared and felt alone
And I was sort of wasted
When I got behind the wheel
Thinking nothing’s gonna happen
But it happened and it’s real.

The romance of life is over
And they found us we are dead
See I know I heard this story
And I know just what I said
For you had asked me for car keys
But I thought that I could drive
See I really wish I’d listened
And right now we’d be alive
