September Tidings

I peer towards the sun
It is an after-supper spotlight
Bright in still flash.
Bursting, slicing, blinding through leaves
The dance high in the top of a maple.
Today was hot strolling on sidewalks.
Somewhat sometimes stuck stumbling,
Gripping spongy souls of sneakers.
Somewhat finding thoughts
So soon the hallways of education open.
There will be yearning and withdrawing
The smiles, the bustle
The hope of an easy adaptation.
A season, a birth
The quick bite of cleats
Grass ripping
Crack!
Plastic!
Expulsions of air
A whistle
Snap! Break!
Whoosh!
Open field!
Touchdown!
The days are shorter now
So soon the halls of education,
Experience, responsibility
Will come
Brought forth by September’s tidings
Pleasant it is near.
