Many people living in one day at a time recovery has their first taste of impaired judgement when they were just kids. Often they started drinking alcohol and smoking pot in their early teens. This was common practice for many of us. Whatever it was that started this desire to repeat our early experiences we did so and eventually discovered we always wanted more and simply just couldn’t stop. In reality, our minds and bodies developed a need to repeat and repeat even when repeated usage was causing our lives to fall apart. By the time we were in our thirties many of us were in trouble. We knew we had to stop. Detoxes, treatment centers, twelve step fellowships and sometimes jails became places we became parts of. We had to stop. We were then introduced to recovery and one day at a time recovery became our only hope. Now recovery became a reality for us. Grace became ours in abundance. Slowly we began to grow one day at a time. We became grateful. Peace.
Many people living in one day at a time recovery know that one day at a time recovery and one day at a time living is the only way to grow in the realities of life. The funny thing is that it will probably take a few hard knocks and a few absolutely wicked difficult situations for us to realize that one day at a time survival and one day at a time sobriety is something that takes one day at a time. After a few years many of us realize that it takes one day one day one days for the years to pile up and perhaps then we are still telling people that recovery is one day at a time. By then we are probably humble enough to realize that recovery is a one day at a time gift. For this we thank God. Peace.
