The Joy In Celebration

By Be Well Today

One of the realities of living life in one day at a time recovery is the ability to join in with the joy in celebration. Another reality is that we can do so without participating in the consumption of anything that could alter our thinking thrusting us into an impaired reality. True celebration, for us, is the absolute avoidance of this. When we become part of a celebration (perhaps a wedding) in which we are guest, best wishes are part of this joyous occasion. If anyone so chooses to celebrate with intoxicants our reality is that we do not. It is as simple as that. If we are to make, or join into a toast, we do so with a non-alcoholic drink. This is of paramount importance and doing as such keeps the joy in the joy of celebration. Because of this we share in the happiness of the day. Peace.

The Beginning Is Not The End

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery learn that recovery is a learned skill. When we learn, and practice this skill for a few years we discover that the beginning is not the end. Some of us who began this journey called recovery found that after a bit of beginning recovery we thought we were at the end of our recovery, and although we wouldn’t say it we believed we had transcended to a point of recovery where we were no longer just living in recovery, we convinced ourselves we had recovered. This is the danger of egocentric thinking. Such thoughts can also threaten those who have lived many years of one day at a time recovery. Those of us who have lived imperfect recovery know this. The journey of one day at a time must continue one day at a time. We know that the thought of believing we are recovered can be a costly delusion. What we do know is we can be free and well one day at a time. That is good enough. It’s our inextricable connection with each other. Peace.

Uncomplicated Weariness

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery understand the reality of uncomplicated weariness which often occurs to those of us troubled by worries and our inability to let go of such hindersome thinking. More often than not our minds are occupied with such vagrant thoughts which are living in our heads rent free. Many of us turn to prayer as a way to deal with such fears. Letting go and letting God is a liberating tool of one day at a time recovery. Therapy helps. So can 12 step recovery. In as such we learn we are not alone in our weariness and our worry. They are a common reality. We do what we can and then we let it go. When we do we become content. It’s not complicated. Peace.

The Other In The Star-Filled Sky

By Be Well Today

The reality of living in one day at a time recovery is that at some point in our lives we will get to see the face of the other in the majesty of the star-filled sky. When we do we experience a sense of awe, and a sense of gratitude, while believing we are, at this moment, under the watchful eye of the one who sees all. Many of us call this a God-moment. It is of no wonder. We are watching the creation of the universe. We might even tremble. It’s all grace. Peace.

It’s Time To Accept

By Be Well Today

Those of us who have been living in recovery for a substantial amount of time know that it’s time to accept that uncertainty and adversity conditioned us to be people who more often than not had no other choice but to adapt to the realities of life by living life one day at a time. A little bit of struggle, a whole lot of hard work, and the touch of grace has enabled us to successfully navigate reality. In doing so we have probably helped a few people along the way. Such a journey is quite an accomplishment and in all humility we become humbly grateful for each day that God, the spirit, or the universe gifts unto us. It’s a welcomed and welcoming reality. Peace.

The Reality Of The Silent Voice

By Be Well Today

People living in one day at a time recovery eventually get to understand the reality of the silent voice. This reality is the uncovering of the unconditional love that we experience one day at a time as we become free from the bondage of active addiction and find freedom in the reality of abstinence. Another reality that we discover is that we begin to recognize and sometimes ignore the self-serving whims of our delusional egos. We become a part of the whole and we understand that being a part of is an absolute wonderful experience of grace. We are hearing the silent voice of our true selves. Peace.

And A Cup Of Coffee Makes Us Smile

By Be Well Today

Many of us living in one day at a time recovery live in the reality of non-judgement’s spirituality. This is the reality of spiritually understanding that we are all worthy of compassion and love in a way that we can not even begin to intellectually comprehend. This is the reality of grace. It appears we discover this grace every morning. More often than not this grace, and a cup of coffee, makes us smile. It’s a moment of a silly little everything. It’s the reality of human belonging and an appreciated spiritual experience. Welcome to the beginning of joy. It’s a wonderful feeling. Peace.

The Benefits Of Hope And Time

By Be Well Today

Most people living in one day at a time recovery understand the benefits of hope and time. Hope tells us that we can live in recovery and that recovery will become an everyday reality for us. With the passing of time we get to see that our hope remains true in our reality. The longer it does the more we get to see the benefits of both hope and time. One such benefit is that we get to see that we are people who are gifted with the reality of grace and because of this grace we get to experience the reality of one day at a time freedom which becomes especially evident in the gift of the present moment. For this we become grateful. We really do. Welcome to long term recovery. It happens quickly. Enjoy the journey. Peace.

The Blind Hearing The Mute

By Be Well Today

Some people living in one day at a time recovery come to understand that we are the reality of the blind hearing the mute. In other words we are the victims of a wonderful and unexpected grace born in the miracle of desperation. In reality, even though we cannot see, one day at a time we can hear what is not being said and what is being said when we cry out for help is God, the spirit, or the universe is saying, “I am with you. You are my child.” We hear this in the midst of turbulent waters and broken dreams as we wash up on the dry shores of recovery. Some of us will call it a gift. Some of us will call it life. It is the reality of the blind hearing he mute. We are bending but not broken and we are grateful. Peace.

Reality’s Unrealistic Thinking

By Be Well Today

People living in one day at a time recovery eventually get to understand the reality of reality’s unrealistic thinking. Even though the introspective reality which leads us to recovery is probably our greatest and most useful asset, such experience is of little use to those who live their lives outside the reality of one day at a time recovery. It’s simply the way reality is. We cannot expect the moon to disappear and the tides to still ebb and flow. Nor should we try to breathe life into the living. It’s just unrealistic thinking. Peace.
