Wide Open Roads

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery know the reality of living life on wide open roads. It’s living life as an adventure of freedom. The only confines of this adventure are that we be responsible enough that we do such an adventure knowing full well that we must do so with those who are our loved ones and we need to accept guidance and assistance from those we gather with in the rooms of recovery. It also helps to recognize that we all travel these roads because we have found grace given and gifted from that which we call God, the spirit, the universe, and those we are inextricably connected with. It can become quite a wonderful journey regardless of any adversity we encounter. We will learn that the wide open roads are the discovery of peace. It’s the gift of doing by the practice of faith. This is the reality of living life on wide open roads. Peace.

A Spiritual Reality

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery have found one day at a time humility. When we discover this reality we have uncovered a spiritual reality. The spiritual reality of humility is a modest commitment that we endeavor to fulfill by sharing peace, joy and love. We do this by accepting we are worthy of grace. What we need to understand is being worthy of grace is a paradox. When we do this we know we can never force our peace, joy and love on another person, or other people. The spiritual reality becomes a grandiose delusion should we try to. People need to be heard should they struggle. At such a times we have shared peace, joy and love with others because they know they have been heard. We know this from experience. It’s important. Some call it empathy. When we understand the spiritual reality of humility we know we are not always the ones with answers. Our reality is we are people living in one day at a time recovery who know we are worthy of grace. We know we’re not saints, but we do have the humility to know we have peace, joy and love to share, and it’s a modest endeavor. Peace.

A Simple Spiritual Awakening

By Be Well Today

Some people living in one day at a time recovery believe when they find reality they are experiencing a simple spiritual experience. In its simplicity we experience the really real of finding one day at a time abstinence. In abstinence our complicated minds journey on a path of reality, adversity, and joy uncovering the truth that all people are in inextricably connected to one another discovering the bonds of equality. Our spiritual health is an endeavor that we find influenced in humility by our ability to adapt to life’s situations and events. In other words if one day at a time recovery is not simple we are probably lacking in our own spiritual ability. Our spiritual battles are usually battles within ourselves. Reality and experience show us this. Most of us awaken slowly over time and continue to do so one day at a time. It’s that simple. Peace.

It Isn’t Always Fast

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery understand that good reality isn’t always fast to happen. It seems in the midst of adversity struggles seem long lasting and in all reality too difficult to deal with. We could say that such times are depressing, stressful, and just plain cruel. As such we reach out for help from someone be they those we are akin with or to someone who is a professional support and we discover the reality of hope. A kind heart can make all the difference for us. Perhaps we learn the reality of this too shall pass which sparks the reality of resilience. We hang on for one more day and then one more day and so on and so on. Life will get better. We need to know that we are enough. Peace.

A Humble Adventure

By Be Well Today

People living in one day at a time recovery live humble lives. In all honesty we find life to be a humble adventure. This is the reality of one day at a time recovery. What we have discovered while on this humble adventure is that we don’t know everything. In all our humility, understanding that we don’t know everything is the foundation of everything we know. What we have learned is the reality of equality. We are no better, or no worse, than any other human being. This is humble belonging. What we do understand is our one day at a time recovery is like a rose. It’s a beautiful thing but it also has thorns. What some of us come to understand is how important maintaining our recovery is. We understand that we are to give our recovery away. When we are giving away our recovery, we are participating in keeping ourselves healthy, humble and real. In doing so, we are actually helping people. We live responsible lives. Doing so is simple but it isn’t always easy. Humble people know this. We learn to reach out when needed. We know the rose has its thorns. In all reality this humble adventure has much joy in it. Relish it and share it with others when you can. Peace.

Wanting To Be “Somebody”

By Be Well Today

Many people who are new to living in one day at a time recovery develop a kindred desire to be “somebody”. Those we are akin with (usually people we meet in the rooms of recovery) can leave a lasting impression on us especially when we resonate with their stories. Perhaps when they share they speak confidently and we know that confidence is an inviting quality. We decide that we want to be “somebody” like them. And perhaps we will. In time, and time takes time, we will understand we are all already “somebody” and we will always be “somebody”. It’s the gift of humility which is the eventual reality for us all. We all matter. Welcome into being. Peace.

Showing Kindness

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery understand that they are making the world a better place when they show a little kindness. It is those who were down and out that understand the reality of lending a hand when someone is in need. We understand because we have been there and someone had leant us a hand and should we show a little kindness it’s because compassion moves us to empathy and empathy moves us to kindness usually done in small acts of love. Kindness is our reality. One day at a time recovery has taught us this. Kindness can save someone’s life. Peace.

The Gift Of Doing

By Be Well Today

Many people who live life one day at a time are active participants in living. Life requires action and healthy action becomes the gift of doing. In our wellness we can do one day at a time a little better than we did when we kept our focus on yesterday or tomorrow. Neither yesterday or tomorrow is a place where we need to live in today. We need to do today, today. What we know is yesterday has given us the knowledge and the skills to live contentedly in today. This is the reality of growth. Yesterday has taught us how to prepare for the future and we do so by doing what needs to be done today. Every good tomorrow is often the result of the preparation and planning of yesterday’s today. Yesterday, today and tomorrow are important. When we understand this we understand the importance of living and doing in today. Yesterday’s struggles prepared us for today. Tomorrow’s dreams were prepared and conceived in the gifts of today’s doing. Nothing was perfect. Nothing will be perfect. When we realize this today’s healthy actions become the gift of doing. We find living wellness in today. It’s important. Peace.

The Realization

By Be Well Today

There is a realization that comes to people in one day at a time recovery. This realization is that life is good. A realization that many of us have is that we find reality and we realize that we are not fundamentally different from others. We breathe, we eat, and we sleep. Though many of us feel like we’re different we are all fundamentally the same. Again – we breathe, we eat, and we sleep. We do gravitate towards people who share similarities with us because we all need love and belonging. People in one day at a time recovery know that life is good. We all have to adapt to difficult situations. We understand reality and being reasonably happy. The reality that we have found has also shown us we can be happy, joyous, and free. Joy does happen. Welcome to reality one day at a time. Be grateful. Peace.

Tirades Of Trouble

By Be Well Today

Some people living in one day at a time recovery might of have the opportunities of listening to our loved ones express tirades of trouble after we repeatedly and repeatedly refused to get help for our realities of living in active addiction and the pain and discomfort that we were causing for not only them but ourselves too. This usually occurs at interventions in which they are actually attempting to tell us that we are actually killing ourselves. Much frustration has led up to such action but in all reality they are telling us that they love us. When we understand this maybe, just maybe, we’ll accept the help we need. Perhaps then we will understand the reality of one day at a time recovery and the wellness that comes with it. Peace.
