The Fears

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery understand the reality of having fear. These fears that we have might be a bit persistent but often they lie fallow and they’re really not as consequential as we think they may be. Often we learn to navigate our fear and we do okay. What we come to understand is that which we fear, although it might bring a lot of discomfort, is faceable, doable, or overcome. Another reality is some fears we have are just common sense. We avoid such harmful realities. After all we don’t try to kiss a cobra do we. What we discover is if we are afraid and we can take action to negate such fear and overcome this reality we do so. This is changing what we can. If we cannot change this situation we accept it and we avoid the wasp nest. It’s all based in reality and consequence. Peace

Wild Dreams

By Be Well Today

Some people living in one day at a time recovery are people living with wild dreams. They are usually creative and intuitive beings. Deep down and in humble reality all they want to do is help people and they do so with their creativity and their emotionally driven desires. They try to help people find a one day at a time freedom with what they create. Many times others find themselves identifying with the creative realities of the wild dreams these creatives share with them. Sometimes these creative beings become beacons of hope for people seeking freedom. If you want to dream dream. if you want to create create. But remain humble. Humility is our greatest asset. It keeps us real. Peace.

Experience Or Opinion

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery have found a lot of inspiration from the experience of people who found recovery in the rooms of recovery. If we ask them for help they will tell us their experience with navigating both life and recovery as opposed to sharing opinions with us. Their experience is all that they have that will help us. It gives us hope and also their experience and their recovery might just be something we can relate to. What we are quick to discover is that we can identify with where they came from, what happened, and what their hope is for tomorrow. This is the reality of one day at a time recovery. It’s a tried and tested tool of recovery and it works. Reach out, pay attention, and be well. Peace.

Stars In Our Eyes

By Be Well Today

Some people who are living in early recovery in 12 step meetings will look up to others who have long-time recovery and also carry a clear message when they share their experience, strength, and hope with us. We put these people up on pedestals. Time and experience teaches us that this is not fair to them or us for that matter. What we need to understand is that all of us have clay feet. We are just an arm’s length away from a drink, a puff, a snort, or a hit. What experience shows us is anyone can relapse. Although we know that relapse is not a failure, we must except reality. It is grace and continual work in these rooms that keep us in recovery. In other words God, the spirit, or the universe helps us to be spiritually fit enough to remain abstinent. We don’t put people on pedestals. We continue the work of one day at a time recovery and we learn reality. Anyone can slip. To avoid this we remain vigilant. Peace.

Finding Morning’s Clear Mind

By Be Well Today

Most people living in one day at a time recovery understand the reality of finding morning’s clear mind. We might wake and automatically shift into survival mode or we might be caught up in other morning routines. Our reality is in our search to find morning’s clear mind, most of us turn to God for another awakening. We often petition God for help in living another day in recovery. What most of us understand is that many of us have our own conception of God and many of us might label that God, God, the spirit, or the universe. What we discover early on in our recovery is by doing so we are on our way to clarity. In this clarity we ready ourselves to face life and life’s own terms. We become ready to grow one day at a time. Who knows. We might even help somebody. Peace.

Reality Is Dawning

By Be Well Today

Many people who are living in one day at a time recovery write in journals, or in notebooks, the realities of our lives. We do this because we want to learn what we have to deal with when we attempt to live life on life’s on terms. We will get to know ourselves and we will discover we cannot unlearn what we have learned. This is a step in self-awareness. If we haven’t learned to be gentle with ourselves now is the time to do so. It will be a lot to take in in the beginning. Most of us learn how to pray at this time. Twelve step programs can help us face our truths. We have to be gentle with ourselves. We will also learn that God, the spirit, or the universe loves us. In general we learn the beginning of trust. Growth is beginning. Peace.

Sometimes We Have To Knock

By Be Well Today

The reality of becoming people who are living in one day at a time recovery in the rooms of recovery is sometimes we have to knock on the door. Knocking on the door is an analogy for when we call a detox center for information on where we can find directions as to where we can find meeting places for people who are living in recovery from addiction. When we find out where these meetings are we are on our road to one day at a time recovery. Now that we have knocked on the door we are actually reaching out for help. It is a necessary action. We will tell you it works for us. Knock on the door. Find out where we are. You don’t have to do it alone anymore. Peace

Rising Times and Faded Glory

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery know the reality of rising times and faded glory. We remember what life was like when we came into early recovery which often brought the new relationship, the new job, and much better shape in our financial reality. Things were really looking up. Life was certainly on the move upward. Then adversity came knocking at our doors and we discovered what faded glory was all about. Perhaps the relationship ended. Perhaps we lost our jobs and our finances became a mess. Adversity was there kicking our door in but we stood there strong and steady ready to face life on life’s on terms. We reached out, stayed abstinent, and prayed. We expected that life would get better and it did. We become grateful. Reality showed up and we cried or we smiled. It’s about resilience It’s all life. Peace.

We Need To Have A Reality Of Control

By Be Well Today

Many people living in one day at a time recovery need to have a reality of control. This means we need to be able to make choices even when we are upset and resistant to advice. In addition to this the need to have a reality of control is common among all people. It is not that we act as control freaks, there are just times we are not receptive to direction because it might not always be welcomed or perceived as something correct. When things are out of sorts with us we need to make a calm decision. It is always true that decisions made calmly are received better because they are made in a reality of control. It makes life easier and easier is always better. We also need to let it go to gain control. Be comfortable. Be respectful. It’s reality. Peace.

The Unreal World Of Delusional Beliefs

By Be Well Today

Some people living in one day at a time recovery are people who lived in the unreal world of delusional beliefs. This does not mean that we ourselves are delusional, or that we are the delusions ourselves, it means our thinking was a bit messed up. Our first and foremost delusional thought was that we thought that using substances was a way to enlightenment. When we found abstinence, and then recovery, we discovered we could have never been more mistaken. We had to accept that maybe, just maybe, our thoughts were unwell and to get well we had to discover a life of one day at a time recovery. When the fog clears we honestly understand, “The journey is beginning” . Knowing this recovery finds us and we discover humility and that we have much to learn. We take a moment and we breathe. Life unfolds as it should. Peace.
